Iron and steel sector in trouble


KARACHI: Iron and steel traders are facing harassing attitude by concerned governmental departments and abusive dominance by shipping companies that take various charges from time to time, which is hampering their business, said President Karachi Iron & Steel Merchants Association (KISMA) Shamoon Baqir Ali while meeting with President KCCI Abdul Majid Haji Muhammad.

Shamoon Baqir expressed apprehensions regarding the import of iron and steel items with regards to customs and shipping companies. He was of the view that shipping charges must be rationalised, as different shipping companies charge differently for same destinations. Regarding Port Qasim, Shamoon informed of problems being faced that some items are placed in bond and they have to go to Port Qasim each time to pay the duties.
